Carmageddon Mac demo blood patch!:
The
Carmageddon
Blood patch (2059 K) has been released for the Mac demo of
Carmageddon. Note that this is not an official patch from SCI so be
aware. Please note: there is a flaw in the patch application
that inadvertantly deletes the 45 MB "Data" folder in the "Mac
Carmageddon Demo" folder and replaces it with an incomplete "Data"
folder. When the Carmageddon Demo application tries to run with the
new "Data" folder, it displays a dialog stating it is unable to
continue and quits to the Finder. To that end, the author of the
patch has also made available a
read-me
file that will help you apply the patch correctly.
In related news, MacPlay finally has indicated that it expects to start distribution of Mac Carmageddon in 4-6 weeks.

Pegasus Prime?:
Presto Studios
(Bandai is distributing) is
targeting September 29 as the release date and remains hopeful this
will be met. But don't try to pre-order from Bandai...according to a
few MGL readers who attempted this, no one there knew about this
game!
Pegasus Prime is a 4 CD-ROM re-make of The Journeyman Project, a time-travel photorealistic adventure game which originally came on just one CD-ROM. Find out lots more by reading our Pegasus Prime preview.

Blizzard news
update:
Blizzard has been known by many as one of the most quiet developers
around. They won't give out release dates and are very hush-hush
about current projects...until the projects are nearing
completion...which they are.
We received an update from Blizzard earlier this week and they have offered updates on many things:

MOO II update on the way
A few people have had some problems getting
MacSoft's new strategy
title, Masters of Orion II, to work on Macs that don't support 256
colors. MacSoft programmer Kirk Sumner recently posted the following
message to Usenet:
Master of Orion II for the pc required 640x480x256 and said so on the box (I have one on my bookshelf). The Mac version has the same requirements, but unfortunately they were not put on the box.
I must claim ignorance on this one. Frankly, I and others here at MacSoft were shocked to find out that not all Macs support 640x480x256 which is an industry standard for many games. We have about 20 Macs in house and sent the product out to dozens of beta testers. None of the internal machines or the beta test machines did not support 640X480x256. Now that we know this is a problem, I am working on an upgrade to the program to allow play on larger monitors. I hope to have it done this week. When completed, it will be posted on numerous web sites for download. We will also be scrapping many cds in our warehouse at a large cost to us, just to keep customers happy.
I would like to send the new version out to a few customers with the 640x480 problem to very the fix. Please contact me if you would like to test it and can receive a 1Mb e-mail enclosure. Please keep in mind that I receive hundreds of e-mails per day and I will only have time to send a limited number of copies. The others will have to wait for the downloadable posting next week.
I personally am VERY sorry for any inconvenience to our wonderful customers. After all, if I didn't care about the users, the program would require the cd even on full installs. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
P.S. I hope to resolve all of the 68k problems in the same update.
Bungie seeks Myth networking beta testers:
When Myth: The Fallen Lords ships later this year, multiplayer
games will be available via bungie.net, Bungie's free Internet gaming
server. Given the level of anticipation for this game, and its wealth
of multiplayer options, we've planned a stress-test to make sure
bungie.net stands up to the storm.
For that purpose, we have opened up the Myth beta test to an additional 1,000 people from midnight CST Monday, September 22nd to midnight CST Wednesday, September 24th. If you're a dedicated online gamer, they want you to sign up and try to bring this machine to its knees.
To apply for the beta test SlamFest, fill out a form at http://www.bungie.com/slamfest/. One thousand beta testers will be randomly picked from all entrants and notified of our selection via e-mail.
Bowling Tournament opens on MacSport
Here's some words from Marc Antony Vose, the man behind the
scenes at MacSport. MacSport is a Web site dedicate to info on sports
games.
Over at MacSPORT we've decided we're bored with writing about games. We'd rather play them! So we're happy to announce our second online tournament. This one's for you bowling fans out there.
It's simple: sign up by October 10th and we'll randomly seed you in a competition tree. Each week, all the participants will have to meet up with their opponents and bowl three strings. Whoever wins two of them advances to the next round (in the event of a tie, the highest pin total wins). Simple enough.
We contacted StarPlay and told them we were planning this and they were cool enough to donate their latest classic game bundle, "9 BIG ONES" for the winner. We might also have some other prizes for high series score, silliest made-up bowling name, who knows?
If you're new to all this online gaming stuff, we'll be posting a little tutorial for you before the start of the tournament. So you've got no excuse!
You'll need a few things to play:
- a Power Mac or clone
- Alley 19 Bowling version 1.5
- Open Transport
- an Internet connection
For more info, point your browser to http://www.suzerain.com/macsport/leagues/bowling/. To join, just drop a note to bowling@suzerain.com with the subject "Bowling".

Postal has retail trouble, Running with Scissors asks for
help
This comment comes from the Postal mailing list.
Postal is the new ultraviolent
action game from Running with Scissors (published by Ripcord Games).
Certain short-sighted, narrow-minded, "oooh, don't want to offend anyone", dumb-ass store owners are refusing to carry Postal, what with the recent occurrence at the Post Office in Florida and all. So the people that be at Running With Scissors would like to ask you for your help. Call your local software store or email your favorite game site or favorite magazine, and tell them you want Postal - it would be greatly appreciated!

Ambrosia Software
releases its latest shareware game:
Harry the Handsome Executive from Ambrosia Software was
released over the weekend. This humorous (and sometimes bizaar)
arcade game by Ben Spees (of Mixed Metaphor) allows you to control
Harry the Handsome Executive as he scoots and kicks his swivel chair
through the halls of ScumCo. The path to job security is fraught with
many perils! Harry must avoid discomfort caused by dart-throwing
middle managers, rebellious customer service drones, crazed chemists,
and a host of other enemies. All the while, he must maintain
corporate favor or risk the feared pink slip. Call it
Dilbert-on-a-ramage, call it a dream-come-true for those who work in
cubicals on a daily basis, but anyone who lives the office life from
9 to 5 should download, play and pay the registration fee for
Ambrosia's latest work. It will not disappoint!
Visit the Harry the Handsome Executive web page for more info or download it now (6 MB; at Download.com).

Petition started to bring Quakeworld to the Mac world:
QuakeWorld is an Internet multi-player specific version of Quake,
freeware available only for PC. While the original version of Quake
can be played over the Internet, many modem users have had less than
satisfactory play. Symptoms like excessive lag, actions actually
happening much later than you did them, packet loss, game freezes and
resumes several seconds later, and various other difficulties plagued
users.
John Carmack of id Software decided to create a version of Quake for PC that was optimized for the average modem Internet player. This Internet specific version does only 1 thing, play deathmatch games over a TCP/IP network such as the Internet. It has no support for solo play, and you can't do anything with out connecting to a special server. Are you interested in bringing such a version of Quake to the Mac? If so, visit the Quakeworld-Mac petition page (courtesy of MacQuake Nexus) and sign up!

Westlake Technologies, a new company specializing in
developing Mac OS games was formed offically this weekend by several
well-known and experienced Mac OS game developers. The company will
focus on development of top quality commercial games for the Mac OS

programming talent at Westlake Technologies includes the developers
of over a dozen Mac OS titles, among them Duke Nukem 3D,

Principal founders of Westlake Technologies include programmers Mark Adams (long time Mac OS game developer), Ken Cobb and Philip H. Sulak (both formerly with Lion Entertainment), and business coordinator Suellen Adams (PhD candidate in LIS, University of Texas).
"We feel the Mac OS entertainment market is very strong, and plan on pursuing the very best games to develop for the Mac OS," said Mark Adams. Current projects in development by members of Westlake Technologies include Shadow Warrior and Unreal for MacSoft, with other major projects in negotiations. We hope Westlake will unveil their web site soon, but for now, we'll just keep you posted.
So what's up with Mark Adams' Maverick Software? Mark & Suellen Adams will continue developing and distributing shareware titles through that company.
