MACSOFT AND REALITY BYTES® TAKE MACINTOSH GAMING TO THE EDGE WITH THE RELEASE OF 'DARK VENGEANCE™'
MINNEAPOLIS, June 26, 1998 - MacSoft, a leading publisher of Macintosh entertainment software, introduces a new era in Mac gaming with the release of the third-person, 3-D action game Dark Vengeance™. Dark Vengeance, developed by Reality Bytes®, breaks all the rules of combat gaming and brings a new style and breadth of gameplay to 3-D action.

"Dark Vengeance was created on the Mac for both the Mac and PC. We think the game will revolutionize both markets. It sets new standards for third-person gameplay, and its use of QuickDraw3D/RAVE™ and an assortment of special features such as 16-bit resolution, high-quality textures, magic effects and weapon swipes are a leap forward from earlier games," said Peter Tamte, executive director of MacSoft. "With 3-D graphics and dynamic colored lighting, Dark Vengeance is designed to fully exploit the next generation of hardware."

"Mac gamers will love the excitement, features and performance Dark Vengeance offers on the Mac platform," said Jon Chait, president of Reality Bytes. "Dark Vengeance represents a new era in Macintosh 3-D gaming."

Dark Vengeance immerses players in the midst of an ancient evil that has brought forth the scourge of the land, the Dark Elves. Having vowed revenge on the people of Amagar, the Elves swarm across the surface destroying everything in their paths in search of vengeance. The players' goal is to exact their own vengeance against the enemy and end the reign of death and disaster.

Dark Vengeance offers a vast array of features, including: * players control not just their character's physical appearance, but their actual combat style;

Dark Vengeance is scheduled to release this winter with a suggested retail price of $49.99.

QuakeWorld UPDATE:
This is from Westlake Interactive's website:

There are a few known bugs in QuakeWorld 2.21b1 Mac, including joining servers with non-default ports (not 27500) and having players quit from a server without disconnecting. We are planning on fixing all reported bugs, but right now we are extremely busy with final Unreal beta testing, so unfortunately the next QW beta release is going to delayed a while.

Sorry for yet another little vacation there, but the good news is that it will be that last one for a very very long time, from now on daily updates really means daily updates!

Interplay's Learn to Program Basic
As you may have read off the Tikkabik/MGL news page in the past couple days, Interplay has a new hybrid mac title coming out soon that is designed to teach children and wanna be programmers how to program in basic. As soon of you may remember we covered this title way back on November 28th 1997, you can read our original write-up here. I then remembered the following e-mail that I got from Interplay PR the next week in response to a question I had on the external capabilities of the software:

yes, the freestyle area in the program will allow students complete access BASIC commands and total freedom to write their own program in BASIC. The very cool part of it is that the programs can be saved by the student and e-mailed or copied to floppy to send to friends, etc. And the recipient will not need to have Learn to Program BASIC on their machine. It's very cool.

As you can see, sometimes the MGA and I are on the ball... : )

UPDATE: Unreal Mac
We just sent out Unreal Mac Beta 2 to the testers, we've been fixing lots of bugs and trying to clean everything up. Still a good bit of work to do, but things are coming together.

On another front, we recently licensed the ZSS sound & music library from Zerius Development Inc. ZSS is very slick and will allow Unreal to play the 's3m' and 'it' music from the PC with no conversions. This means you get all the great music from the original Unreal plus the ability to play any music for add-on levels created by third party PC developers with no changes. We're also using ZSS for sound effects, allowing us to do cool things like reverb for echo effects.
