I thought that I'd just post this last little bit of news before I leave for Boston:
MACSOFT RACKS THEM UP WITH 'REAL POOL' FOR MACINTOSH
MINNEAPOLIS - May 19, 1998 - Further broadening the depth of its
product line, MacSoft, an affiliate of GT Interactive Software Corp.
(NASDAQ: GTIS), today announces the release of Real Pool, a real-time
photorealistic pool-playing experience.
"From the first look at the screen, you can tell you're playing the most realistic pool game ever," said Peter Tamte, executive director of MacSoft. "The extraordinary graphics and realistic physics make players feel like they're actually holding a cue stick in their hand."
Real Pool has features no other Macintosh pool game has, including bumper pool and options to pick your own opponent. Other features of the game include:
Real Pool includes 6 popular pool games including 8-Ball, 9-Ball, Straight, Rotation, Carom (Spanish) Billiards and Bumper Pool. Currently available, Real Pool carries a suggested retail price of $29.99. Real Pool requires a Power Macintosh with at least 16MB of RAM, color monitor, CD-ROM drive and Mac OS 7.5 or higher.

for third-party maps. Interesting although there is no info on where
these "third-party" maps will be coming from...

Lazer Zone is a new rather unique arcade shooter where you have 2 weaposn that only fire at right angles into the battlefield.

Dawn of Aces
Based on the award winning WarBirds engine,
Dawn of
Aces combines flight realism with the physics of WWI's best war
planes. The arena will be set on a historically accurate terrain (a
true map of Europe), there will be two sides to the conflict: The
Allies and The Central Powers, and players will have the chance to
win medals and decorations for outstanding feats of bravery! The game
is being developed simultaneously for both Mac and PC platforms.

Shadow Warrior TC Coming...
In the next few days will be the release of a 100% Mac-compatible
Total Conversion for Shadow Warrior. That means all new levels,

Mac Starcraft Update:
I've heard from Blizzard
that their latest estimate on the release of Mac Starcraft is about 8
weeks away. Hopefully it won't be another 2 years like Diablo was : )
Also, you can expect new reviews of Star Control 3 and Diablo by early next week!

Unreal News
Unreal was mentioned on Apple's site as part of the slew of
cool stuff Apple announced today.

Falcon 4.0 announced for the Macintosh
Continuing to expand its line of best-selling Macintosh games,
MacSoft, an affiliate of GT Interactive Software Corp., announced
today that it has teamed with Mark Adams and Phil Sulak of Westlake
Interactive, Inc. to begin development of the highly anticipated
Falcon® 4.0 for Macintosh. Westlake Interactive is responsible
for converting many popular Macintosh games including Shadow
Warrior™, X-Men®: The Ravages of Apocalypse™ and Unreal™.
Additionally, Mark Adams has been involved in the conversion of
Macintosh mega-hits Quake® and Duke Nukem™ 3D. Falcon 4.0 is
scheduled for release near the end of 1998.
"We are very excited to have the talented team at Westlake Interactive working on the conversion of Falcon 4.0," said Peter Tamte, executive director for MacSoft. "Their extensive Mac and PC expertise will be critical as they convert this very sophisticated flight simulator to the Mac."
Originally developed for Windows 95 by MicroProse®, Falcon 4.0 is a single and multi-player combat simulation game set in the Korean peninsula with a real-time, full-scale war in progress. Players take on the role of a pilot in an F-16 jet fighter and face a variety of tactical land and air missions, including intense dogfights. Providing the most authentic F-16C flight modeling, Falcon 4.0 includes highly detailed models of avionics systems, weapons systems, threat environments and artificial intelligence, plus the most detailed graphics ever released in a flight simulator. The PC version is scheduled for release by MicroProse during the late spring.
