Rocky Mountain Trophy Hunter Released
MacSoft is expanding its outdoor sporting line of computer
software games as it ships Rocky Mountain Trophy Hunter for
Macintosh. Rocky Mountain, which has been a top-ten selling PC game
(PC Data) since WizardWorks released it last spring, gives gamers the
thrill of the hunt from the rugged terrain of the Rocky Mountains
while trying to track down such big game animals as elk, bear, moose
and big horn sheep.
MacSoft was the first to bring a hunting simulation to the Mac gaming market with the release of Deer Hunter, which is currently a top-five selling Mac game according to PC Data, said Cindy Swanson, MacSoft marketing manager. We're adding to our hunting line-up with the release of Rocky Mountain Trophy Hunter, which is an extremely realistic big game hunting title and will give Mac gamers a completely new hunting challenge.
In a realistic recreation, while trudging through the Rockies in search of big game animals, gamers encounter unexpected climate changes and extreme weather conditions of snow, rain, thunder and lightning.
Other features of the game include:
Attractively priced at $19.99, Rocky Mountain Trophy Hunter for Macintosh is available at retail outlets nationwide.
Lode Runner 2 Ships
A legendary Apple gaming classic returns to the Macintosh as
MacSoft ships GT Interactive's Lode Runner 2 for the Mac. Originally
released in 1983 on the Apple II platform, Lode Runner has since sold
more than two million units worldwide and become one of the most
popular video games in history.
The original Lode Runner has had a tremendous following of Mac gamers and we're excited to bring back a title they're familiar with but with many enhanced features like 3D technology, multi-player functionality and a user-supported level editor, said Cindy Swanson, marketing manager for MacSoft. It's also a great opportunity to expose new Mac gamers to an original Mac title they've probably heard a lot about but never had an opportunity to play.
Developed by Presage Software in consultation with Doug Smith, the game's original creator, Lode Runner 2 features five immersive 3D worlds, more than 160 new levels and a complete level editor/builder.
As either a male or female Lode Runner, players must travel through isometric 3D game worlds collecting gold, solving puzzles and evading evil creatures. A keen sense of timing, resourcefulness and pure logic all combine to make Lode Runner 2 a completely unique gaming experience. Dynamic artificial intelligence allows enemies to react and move according to playersí movements, allowing for unlimited replayability.
In addition to its single-player mode, Lode Runner 2 supports multi-play for up to eight players simultaneously. Lavish worlds including Industrial, Jungle, Gear, Mona and Wacky challenge players of any skill level and maintain the nerve-wracking game play that originally established Lode Runner as the benchmark in gaming. Each of the 160 levels includes a scrolling six directions of freedom, allowing the player movement in any direction (NW, SW, SE, NE, up and down).
Lode Runner 2 for Macintosh is available in retail stores nationwide at a suggested retail price of $29.99.
Unreal Update Info
From Westlake
Interactive:
The 218 patch is now out on the PC, and we have recevied the code
from Epic. Unfortunately we still are updating the full code base to
217 on the Mac (necessary before we can do the 218 update). For a bit
of perspective, the code changes from 209 to 217 on the PC totalled
approximately five thousand changes. Needless to say its a bit of
work to get it all integrated into the Mac code and make sure it all
works. We have no timetable for release of Mac 218 yet, so please
don't ask when it will be out. We're working as hard as we can, and
when it is ready, it will be released here.

This is a really slow news week...
Starcraft
Starcraft Mac is coming along and should be ready for a December
release to stores. Most of the major bugs have been worked out and
optimization is the only major task left.
Another Mac Gaming Web Site Debuts
Another Mac Gaming Web Site has debuted. This one called Vertigo,
is rather small on content. The news section consists of a weekly
repost of news that was posted on the MGL, and the rest of the
content is a Diablo review and a half-assed preview of Starcraft.
But, you can go see for
yourself here

Boy, the past couple of days have been rather slow except for the Voodoo Banshee announcement...
Starfleet Academy bug with MacOS 8.5?
Reportedly there is some sort of error when you try to launch
MacPlay's Starfleet Academy under MacOS 8.5. The game still runs fine
under MacOS 8.1 or earlier. Hopefully Interplay will incorporate a
fix for this bug in the forthcoming patch in the works for SFA.

VillageTronic's heinously
slow web site here
