This is one of our favorite short hikes. My hubnsad & I have been going since we were dating (we’ve been married 32 yrs) and have taken our children all during their growing years except for the 6 yrs. we lived in Chicago area. We were going to go there today (May 30, 2011) but were stopped by trees across the trail completely blocking the way. These have fallen since the tornadoes and severe storms April 27th. The trail was beginning to grow up with lots of poison ivy. We didn’t go in the entrance you describe as there was a tree across the path there, too, but went to a pull-off further up. Finally gave up and hope the Forest Service has it cleared soon. If we had chainsaws we would help them. I may call about how we can help.
