Back at The Golden Tiki in Las Vegas in December 2024, this time for the holiday season. The tiki bar sits on Spring Mountain Road in Chinatown, a short ride off the Strip, and is known for its over-the-top decor, strong tropical cocktails and late hours.

At Christmas the whole place gets a festive makeover: Santa hats on the shrunken heads, lights everywhere, and a dedicated holiday cocktail menu alongside the regular tiki list. (I also wrote up an earlier visit in November 2023.)

    Inside the bar

The bar is packed with skulls, carvings, pufferfish lamps and themed nooks – the photos and video below give a sense of the atmosphere, along with a few of the drinks.

    The holiday menu

The December 2024 holiday menu ran alongside the usual tiki classics. A few highlights:

    • Mai Tai for a Holiday – two rums with orange curaçao and a winter-spiced pumpkin orgeat ($14)
    • Pumpkin Batida – cachaça, pumpkin, coconut cream and pineapple ($14)
    • Tom & Jerry – the creamy hot holiday classic with Armagnac and dark rum ($15)
    • Get Your Goat: A Pagan Christmas Miracle – goat’s-milk eggnog with smoky mezcal and maple ($16)
    • Balls of Jolly #2 – dark rum, rye, cinnamon raisin, cranberry and pineapple, with an optional souvenir glass ($15 / $25)
    • Holiday Flight – all the holiday sippers for $24, plus a Dole Soft Serve section with boozy add-ons

    More drinks and decor

Tips if you go: it gets busy on weekend nights, so reservations are worth making through the bar’s website, and the shareable Kuuipo pineapple and fishbowl drinks are built for groups. Prices and menus change, so check what’s on before you go.

More tiki: Kahuna Tiki in LA and my round-up of Disney bars and tiki lounges.

  • Christmas 2014

    Christmas 2014

Well I had hoped to post more, I had other holiday items to write about, but here it is Christmas Eve and this is my first post in December.

Well to get it out of the way first, I managed to find it again this year:

    Christmas Crunch 2014!

  • Christmas 2013…

    Christmas 2013…

It has been a while since my last post, but I can’t let a holiday season go by without writing about some random crap.

    How about Snickerdoodle milk?

Yes, it is a real thing. Sold at Target.

    Snickerdoodle Milk

I didn’t remember to grab a picture of what it actually looked like, but the packaging is a good representation. It is basically a little lighter colored than chocolate milk. I was somewhat apprehensive about the taste, but was pleasantly surprised. Basically cinnamony sweet tasting milk, like eggnog with a whole lot more cinnamon.

The sweetness was too much for me though, I only drank half a glass.

More important than Snickerdoodle milk, this year I managed to again find Christmas Crunch cereal!

It had been a while since I’ve had Christmas Crunch. I was unsuccessful in my crunch quest in 2012 and 2011. My last successes were in 2010 and 2009.

Actually I found this year’s Christmas Crunch back in November just before US Thanksgiving. That seems to be the sweet time to find it, last year I checked at least a dozen grocery stores along the I-5 corridor during the first week of December, but I think that it was too late.

Christmas Crunch is essentially just a holiday-ified version of Captain Crunch Crunchberries edition, but that holiday-ification makes all the difference to me. There’s something about Christmas versions of food products that just call out to me.

If you look closely in the Christmas Crunch photos you can make out the caboose of my new train. I’ve always wanted a model train to run around my tree and this year is the year I actually got one. Of course it took over a month, two locomotives, trips to the local train store, and a lot of patience, but eventually had a running train going around my tree.

  • White Castle Cheeseburgers & Christmas wrap-up

White Castle Cheeseburgers & Christmas wrap-up

Welcome 2011, please treat me nicer than 2010. Actually so far this year has been about a billion times better than last year, although the bar was pretty low. I stayed home last night and fully avoided being anywhere near the roads and drunk drivers.

Time for the first post of the year. Starting with frozen cheeseburgers:

    White Castle Cheeseburgers

Now most people have at least heard of White Castle, most people from the movie Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. White Castle is the oldest fast-food burger chain in the US. They only have 422 location across America, mostly in the Midwest. For everyone outside the 11 states featuring actual White Castle restaurants they produce a line of frozen burgers. They are the same as the fresh ones minus the pickles (pickles do not freeze well apparently).

    Cheeseburger!

They taste better than they photograph. I used to get these all the time when I was a teenager. The Cost Cutter in Blaine, WA used to only carry the Hamburgers and I would have to add my own cheese. Sometimes I would use spray cheese. The best part about White Castle burgers are the little onions, they taste delicious.

    Christmas Wrap-up:
Christmas kind to me this year. I got an amazing back massager. It is a shiatsu massager with heat. Feels so good for my back.

    Back Massager

I was going to write more but it took me like twenty minutes to get that last picture to appear correctly, so I’m going to call it a post.

  • Growing Reindeer & Christmas Crunch (2010)!

Growing Reindeer & Christmas Crunch (2010)!

Well, I found Christmas Crunch again this year! Last year I was so excited when I found it I bought three boxes, this time I managed to rein in my exuberance and settle for just one box.

  • X-Mas Stuff!

I don’t really feel like typing that much today, but I’m getting a backlog of holiday photos I took to use in blog posts. Since American Thanksgiving has come and gone and it is now officially the holiday season I better get sharing. So without comment, some photos of holiday related stuff I have picked up so far:

  • Hickory Farms!

    Hickory Farms!

I love Hickory Farms stuff. You may remember from last year. Actually I just really like gift boxes/baskets. I like the little assortment of goodies you get with them.

Well the other week was my first sighting of a Hickory Farms gift box, and of course I bought one:

First Hickory Farms of the year

Looking at the photo I realize two things, 1: It is a crappy photo, 2: It is the exact same assortment I photographed last year, right down to the not featured in this year’s photo spreader and strawberry candies.

Last week I ate it all for lunch:

On Remembrance Day I went to Bellingham and checked out the Hickory Farms kiosk that is temporarily in Bellis Fair mall. Of course I had to buy something, so I got this:

Second Hickory Farms assortment of the year

I haven’t eaten this one yet, but I can’t wait to use the mini cleaver when I do! If you will notice I also have a new tablecloth featured in the background. It was one of my many purchases from Target’s holiday selection. The rest I’m saving for a future post.

    Christmas Crunch Update:
No sightings yet this year. I’ll be checking again soon. If I find any this year I will be buying fewer than three boxes this time. I didn’t even finish one box last year.

  • You’ll Shoot your eye out!

    You’ll Shoot your eye out!

I found some new underwear today:

    shotyoureyeoutboxers
    “A Christmas Story” boxer shorts

I went to Target in Bellingham today for no particular reason and ended up coming home with those lovely undergarments. Target actually has the coolest holiday merchandise of any store I’ve shopped at this season. Previously I had been there and almost bought a Ralphie t-shirt.

And since this year I have a miniature Christmas tree adorning my kitchen table I also bought these:

    "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" Ornaments
    “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” Ornaments

When I bought my tree I also picked up a pack of generic ornaments, but I didn’t realize you must purchase hooks seperately. What’s with that? Anyway, these are way cooler. Actually they are bells, not strictly ornaments. But they hang on my tree so I don’t think there will be much ringing happening.

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" ornaments on my little tree
“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” ornaments on my little tree

Now that’s not the best picture of my tree. I still have more ornaments to hang, and it also needs some garland. I guess I also need something for the top of it still too.

My shopping for gifts is mostly complete thankfully. I just need to find a couple more appropriate gifts for certain people and I’ll really be done.

  • Christmas Crunch!

    Christmas Crunch!

    I found it:

2009 Edition of Christmas Crunch cereal
2009 Edition of Christmas Crunch cereal

After searching many grocery stores over two trips to Bellingham I finally found boxes of Christmas Crunch at Wal-Mart. This is the first time in years that I have found the christmas cereal. And unlike this box of Christmas Crunch, my box is fresh and best before May 28, 2010. My boxes actually. Yes, I bought three boxes. I just hope that my supply will last until Christmas.

And in case you are interested, here’s the back of the box:
