2010…

Well, another year has arrived.

I haven’t updated in a while, and for very good reasons.

Coming home from a movie on New Year’s eve I was hit by a drunk driver that ran a red light. I had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. It really really sucked.

I ended up with three fractures, two in my pelvis, and one more in my hip socket that is more serious. To prevent damage to my hip I can’t put any weight on my leg until at least March 25 when I see an orthopedic surgeon again. So I’m stuck on crutches until then. Which means a complete loss of freedom. I have to rely on others to get anywhere (doctors, lawyers, grocery store, etc…). And on crutches you can’t carry anything, which makes everyday tasks a lot more difficult. The timing was really great considering I’m moving. I’ve had to hire movers to come in and pack everything for me, move it all, and then unpack it all for me.

So, I can’t work, can’t go anywhere by myself (even if I had a car, I can’t drive with my leg the way it is). I have to sit at home all day and watch TV or browse the internet. And that’ll get old real fast.

And now for the cherry on top.

The x-rays I had while in the emergency room showed that a residual mass in my lung after chemo has grown. So I have to have surgery to remove this mass from my lung. But with the wait times for surgery in BC it will probably be scheduled for just after I can start walking again. So when I recover from the car wreck I will most likely be then laid out again from lung surgery.

So, 2010 has not been, nor is it looking to be, very good.

You’ll Shoot your eye out!

I found some new underwear today:

I went to Target in Bellingham today for no particular reason and ended up coming home with those lovely undergarments. Target actually has the coolest holiday merchandise of any store I’ve shopped at this season. Previously I had been there and almost bought a Ralphie t-shirt.

And since this year I have a miniature Christmas tree adorning my kitchen table I also bought these:

"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" Ornaments

“Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” Ornaments

When I bought my tree I also picked up a pack of generic ornaments, but I didn’t realize you must purchase hooks seperately. What’s with that? Anyway, these are way cooler. Actually they are bells, not strictly ornaments. But they hang on my tree so I don’t think there will be much ringing happening.

Now that’s not the best picture of my tree. I still have more ornaments to hang, and it also needs some garland. I guess I also need something for the top of it still too.

My shopping for gifts is mostly complete thankfully. I just need to find a couple more appropriate gifts for certain people and I’ll really be done.

Christmas Crunch!

I found it:

After searching many grocery stores over two trips to Bellingham I finally found boxes of Christmas Crunch at Wal-Mart. This is the first time in years that I have found the christmas cereal. And unlike this box of Christmas Crunch, my box is fresh and best before May 28, 2010. My boxes actually. Yes, I bought three boxes. I just hope that my supply will last until Christmas.

And in case you are interested, here’s the back of the box:

So I’ve been sick since Thurday afternoon. Mostly a sore throat, fever, and headache. I had a CT scan Thursday morning, so I don’t know if I’m having a reaction to the IV contrast dye they pumped in me, or if I caught some more sinister type virus. All I know is that I was out of it on Friday, a little better Saturday, and a little better today, but I’ve still been better. I had started to work on this post back on Thursday, but didn’t get around to finishing it until now.

Wednesday I went to the US to do some shopping. I wanted to get a head start on looking for Christmas stuff. There was a ton of cool stuff that I saw at Target, and yes, I bought some. Once we are closer/in December and I have this stuff put up I’ll take some pictures and put them up here.

One of my goals was to find a box of Christmas Crunch cereal, in this we were unsuccessful. I haven’t found a box in years…

But still, I was successful in filling my need for Hickory Farms products:

That’s right, I came home with two Hickory Farms gift boxes, complete with included spreaders!

I was going to start eating one of the boxes right away (or at least the food products in the box), but as I said, I got sick instead (yes, before eating any). As you can see, the box I chose to open first included well-seasoned crackers, Italian head & cheese spread, Sweet-hot mustard, beef summer sausage, 4 strawberry candies, and an official Hickory Farms chesse spreader. I’ve been resisting the tempation to eat all of that because I want to wait until I feel better to fully appreciate everything.

Now I said I wouldn’t post the christmas stuff we got until closer to or in December, but there’s a couple of things I can’t wait to share:

xmascookies

At Target and Walmart they had these packages of baked goods mixes, packed in christmas themed aprons and oven mitts. We decided on bringing home the Sugar Cookie mix inside the winter Bear oven mitt from Target, and the Cinnamon Sugar Cookie mix inside the christmas tree apron from Walmart. The price? $5 each. And it’s pretty hard to screw up sugar cookies, especially in just mix form.

A trip to the grocery store

So a revised post of Disneyland sourvenirs is coming very soon, but first is this random post about my trip to the grocery store yesterday.

I have a US mailbox to receive Amazon and eBay and stuff, and when I get my mail from there I always go to the grocery store. American grocery stores are so much cooler than Canadian ones. They seem to stock products that you will never see in Canada. And there’s no french packaging! Here are some highlights of what I picked up yesterday:
