    New home view

The view from a new home in Seattle in January 2022, with the Space Needle standing out against the skyline.

The Space Needle was built for the 1962 World’s Fair and is still Seattle’s most recognisable landmark. Not a bad view to wake up to.

    Ivar’s

Fish and chips from Ivar’s, the Seattle seafood institution founded by Ivar Haglund in 1938.

Ivar’s is known for its fish and chips, clam chowder and clam strips, served everywhere from its waterfront restaurant, Ivar’s Acres of Clams on Pier 54, to fish bars around the region. The photos show the meal, including fish, chips and fried clams.

Eating fish and chips while feeding the seagulls on the waterfront is a classic Seattle experience.

Lunch at Lowell’s in Seattle’s Pike Place Market.

Lowell’s is one of the market’s longest-running restaurants, with three floors of seating and big windows looking out over Elliott Bay and the ferries. The menu covers breakfast, seafood and Northwest comfort food. The photos show the meal.

Grabbing a window table on one of the upper floors gives one of the best views in the market.

Dumplings at Din Tai Fung on New Year’s Day 2022.

Din Tai Fung, which started in Taiwan, is famous worldwide for its xiao long bao, delicate soup dumplings folded with at least 18 pleats, and you can watch the dumplings being made through the kitchen windows. The photos show dumplings and sautéed greens from the meal.

The Seattle area has several Din Tai Fung locations, and they’re popular, so expect a wait at peak times.

The Alaskan at the Crab Pot

The Alaskan seafood feast at the Crab Pot on Seattle’s waterfront.

The Crab Pot is known for its seafood feasts, where a steaming pile of crab, shellfish, sausage, corn and potatoes is poured straight onto your paper-covered table and you dig in with mallets and bibs. The photo shows the feast from this visit.

It’s a fun, messy meal and a good one for groups. The restaurant is on Pier 57, next to the Seattle Great Wheel.

Roof is closed, Mariners vs White Sox one more time…

The roof is closed for one more Seattle Mariners game against the Chicago White Sox at T-Mobile Park in September 2019.

T-Mobile Park’s retractable roof covers the field when it rains but leaves the sides open, so even with the roof closed the ballpark still feels like an outdoor stadium. The photo shows the view under the roof at night.

This was the last of several games in a row against the White Sox that month.

    Mariners vs White Sox again…

The Seattle Mariners against the Chicago White Sox again at T-Mobile Park in September 2019.

2019 was the first season the ballpark carried the T-Mobile Park name, after 20 years as Safeco Field. The photos show the field from the stands.

A late-season homestand is a good time to catch a game, with smaller crowds and good seats easier to find.

    Ivar’s Acres of Clams

Ivar’s Acres of Clams on Seattle’s waterfront, the flagship restaurant of the local seafood chain founded by Ivar Haglund in 1938.

The restaurant sits on Pier 54 and serves Northwest seafood, from chowder and fish and chips to salmon, with views out over Elliott Bay. The photos show the restaurant’s vintage-style murals and some of the food.

There’s also a walk-up fish bar outside, which is perfect for fish and chips by the water.

    Mariners vs Reds

The Seattle Mariners hosted the Cincinnati Reds at T-Mobile Park in September 2019.

Interleague matchups like this one bring National League teams to Seattle only occasionally. The photos show the ballpark on game night.

Seattle’s ballpark is a great place to watch a game, with good views from almost every seat and plenty of local food and beer.
